I have been feeling quite stressed at the moment. Sourcefire is slated to release 4.7 to the market, and I am tired. This place really knows how to suck the will to live out of you.
I had a dream, maybe it was a memory construed into a waking dream, about christian yesterday. We were sitting somewhere watching TV or something. John King was there. We started talking about something. Christian would occasionally interject a "tchea" every so often. But, in my dream, I seemed to be the only one that knew it wasn't real. I tried to tell John, "he's not really there, all of these things we are talking about he cannot hear." John didn't understand. Christian had a pale greyish tone to him, but not the way he did when he was alive from too many drugs. It was as if everything about him was almost two dimensional, and lacked saturation of color. He was there, but in a stark, almost colorless contrast to everything around him. Even the clothes and hat he was wearing. Maybe it's why I wore a Hawaiian shirt today, because that's the last thing I remember seeing Christian wearing. He had on his hat, his black shoes, his black jeans, and that redish Hawaiian shirt he would wear. We had just installed Beryl on his laptop, so he could have super cool UI effects under linux. It was still so bleeding edge. So many things I want to say to him. Fuck. Why did you have to die on me asshole. Fuck you.

Isis started kindergarten this week. It's pretty surreal to have my first child in the school system. Life has been super busy otherwise as well. Hanging out with people, trying to cut up music to post as an online album, watching movies, playing a LOT of guitar, and writing software of course.
I thought I would also share this with you:
How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light bulb. The answer is seven:
* One to deny that a light bulb needs to be replaced.
* One to attack and question the patriotism of anyone who has questions about the light bulb.
* One to blame the previous administration for the need of a new light bulb.
* One to arrange the invasion of a country rumored to have a secret stockpile of light bulbs.
* One to get together with Vice President Cheney and figure out how to overpay Halliburton one million dollars for each light bulb.
* One to arrange a photo-op session showing Bush changing the light bulb while dressed in a flight suit and wrapped in an American flag.
* And finally, one to explain to Bush the difference between screwing a light bulb and screwing the country. [anon]
For the linux friendly crowd, a note on compiz fusion. I switched to compiz fusion from beryl only to find my beloved edge scroll had been essentially axed. It was there at the beginning. This would be, the ability to move the mouse pointer to any edge of the screen, and scroll the mouse wheel, and change desktops. Sure you can do that in compiz fusion if there is no window where you scroll, but I like my windows mostly maximized. I don't want to have to aim when I go to scroll desktops. Also, compiz fusion looks nice, but in terms of stability, it sucks my ass for my work desktop. I'm not sure what it is, but my home computer and laptop both seem to work fine with it. My work PC, when I enable compiz fusion it starts okay. After about 30 minutes though, the machine slows to a crawl, where every possible click action makes the machine stick. Eventually, the machine just halts, and stops responding. The mouse still moves, but the UI does not respond at all to anything. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work, Ctrl-Alt-F1 doesn't do anything. The power button sometimes does not work. I have to hard power down, or if I wait another say, 30 to 60 minutes, it will just reboot itself. And another thing dammit, the newest GIT version, they removed the "action" tab from every plugin?? Must be some kind of coding error. I cannot set keyboard shortcuts anymore? Not even mouse shortcuts? Apparently I can set them in gconf-editor, but then if I try to restart compiz, the whole goddamn computer freezes again? WTF??? I run the same debian distro here as at home. I run almost all the same exact software. I cannot imagine it being something there. I am almost convinced it has something to do with my work PC's dual proc nature. My home machine is a single processor. I have had it, I cannot do the compiz fusion anymore, so I decided to switch back to beryl, despite the fact the animation is not anywhere as smooth, it has fewer features, but dammit, it's stable. Maybe compiz fusion 6.0? Until then, viva la beryl!

I have been so busy lately, with friends in town, going out of town, and playing guitar. That's other than the whole, work family etc that I normally do. I love jamming with Marcos. I'm really going to get my vacation pics up soon, I promise. For all you guitarists out there, google "tuxguitar" for all your open source guitar tabbing needs. It's the shazbot.

Once again, our mighty elected officials come out with their heads wedged far up their own asses:
The nation's top anti-drug official said people need to overcome their "reefer blindness" and see that illicit marijuana gardens are a terrorist threat to the public's health and safety, as well as to the environment. John P. Walters, President Bush's drug czar, said the people who plant and tend the gardens are terrorists who wouldn't hesitate to help other terrorists get into the country with the aim of causing mass casualties. Walters made the comments at a Thursday press conference that provided an update on the "Operation Alesia" marijuana-eradication effort. "Don't buy drugs. They fund violence and terror," he said. from redding.com

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help! The Internet Radio Equality Act has recently been introduced in both the House (H.R. 2060) and Senate (S. 1353) to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your senators and your representative to ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act by clicking below.

"Security experts around the internet have rallied to Amero's defense, arguing that it is clear that the computer Amero was using was infested with pop-up software, but the school's IT administrator told the jury he'd never heard of such software."
If the IT administrator has never heard of spyware they are a disgrace to the term "Information Technology" How stupid can you be? The fact that somebody deemed to be an "expert" adamently denied that such software even exists to me says this person needs to be terminated immediately for gross incompetence.
The real solution of course, is to switch to Linux. Windows, as I have previously explained, is crap.
